The world's first 2nm mobile chip: Samsung Exynos 2600 is ready for mass production.
According to a report by South Korean media ETNews yesterday (September 2nd), Samsung has confirmed that Exynos 2600 will become the world's first mobile SoC chip using 2nm process. At present, the chip has been developed and is ready to enter the mass production stage.
The current key issue is that Samsung has not yet made a final decision on whether to use this new chip in the Galaxy S26 series of smartphones. According to industry sources, this important decision is expected to be officially made in the fourth quarter of this year (from October to December).
The South Korean media pointed out that the Exynos 2600 chip uses a new heat dissipation component called "Heat Pipe Bracket (HPB)". It works in a similar way to a heat sink and can effectively manage the heat generated during the chip's operation, which is expected to solve the previous heat problem and improve performance stability. This progress is regarded as a key step for Samsung to challenge the monopoly position of Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) in the application processor (AP) market.
According to data from CounterPoint Research, TSMC currently dominates the global high - end AP foundry market, accounting for 87% of the shipment volume of smartphone APs below 5 nanometers, and has strong pricing power.
Recently, there has been news that TSMC plans to raise the unit price of 3 - nanometer process wafers by up to 8%, which puts customers like Qualcomm under the pressure of rising costs. Qualcomm is currently using TSMC's second - generation 3 - nanometer technology to produce the AP "Snapdragon 8 Elite", and the cost of wafers is as high as $18,500 per piece.
The South Korean media believes that Samsung needs to prove the stability and competitiveness of its 2 - nanometer process in order to successfully attract major customers like Qualcomm and achieve diversification in the foundry market.
