CTOnews.com August 10 news, Microsoft issued another reminder today that the Windows Server version of 20H2 will be terminated on August 9, 2022. After August 9, 2022, these devices will no longer receive monthly security and quality updates that include protection against the latest security threats. To continue to receive security and quality updates, Microsoft recommends updating to the latest version of Windows Server.

Microsoft said it would continue to serve the following versions: Windows 10 Enterprise Edition and Education Edition, Windows 10 IoT Enterprise Edition, Windows 10 Enterprise multi-session and Windows 10 on Surface Hub.

In addition to ending its support for Windows Server 20H2, Microsoft is about to stop using the Windows Server channel (SAC) for half a year. The half-yearly channel provides faster access to new features and functions, so its support period is only 18 months. Microsoft does not plan to provide a new SAC version after the end of the Windows Server 20H2 life cycle, and the main channel of Windows Server is now a long-term service channel or LTSC version.

Microsoft recommends that users who use Windows Server channels for half a year migrate to Azure Stack HCI or use long-term service channels of the operating system. The latter will receive 5 years of mainstream support and 5 years of extended support, which means that the latest version of Windows Server 2022 will remain "active" until October 14, 2031.
