CTOnews.com, August 11, according to the Wall Street Journal, on August 10, local time, Cisco Systems disclosed that the company had been attacked by a hacker linked to some well-known cyber criminal organizations.

CTOnews.com learned that Cisco Talos, the company's threat intelligence business, said it discovered the attack on May 24, when hackers used a Cisco employee's certificate and "carried out a series of complex voice phishing attacks" to gain access to the company's network.

In a separate statement, Cisco noted that the hackers released a list of documents related to the security incident earlier Wednesday. Cisco said the incident was limited to the company's IT environment and did not involve sensitive customer data or private employee information.
