It is reported that Apple has become a patented customer of LG Electronics and has paid a license fee of about 4.1 billion yuan.

The latest news from South Korean media shows that two companies paid patent licensing fees to LG Electronics in the first quarter, paying a total of 890 billion won (about 4.548 billion yuan). The two companies include Apple, and Apple paid most of them, more than 800 billion won (about 4.088 billion yuan).

South Korean media also mentioned in the report that LG Electronics and Apple may have reached a long-term patent use agreement with a maximum term of 10 years, including a large number of standard essential patents.

If Apple becomes a patent licensing customer of LG Electronics, as reported by foreign media, it will be another agreement between the two companies on patent licensing.

LG Electronics and Apple have also signed patent licensing agreements before, but unlike the latest foreign media mention that Apple has become LG Electronics 'patent licensing customer, the two companies previously signed a cross-licensing agreement, which is no longer necessary as LG Electronics abandons its smartphone business.

LG Electronics no longer produces smartphones, which means they don't have to pay patent licensing fees to Apple, and they can still earn considerable revenue from holding a large number of standard essential patents.

South Korean media also mentioned in the report that after reaching a patent licensing agreement with Apple, LG Electronics, which has a large number of standard essential patents, may also seek a similar agreement with Samsung Electronics, which is currently the world's highest-selling smartphone manufacturer with annual shipments higher than Apple.
