CTOnews.com Sept. 2, the latest Canalys data show that smartphone shipments in Latin America reached 32.2 million in the second quarter of 2022, down 2.5% from a year earlier, and the overall decline is still smaller than the global year-on-year decline (- 9%).

CTOnews.com learned that according to the report, the top five smartphone shipments in Latin America in the second quarter of 2022 were Samsung (36 per cent), Lenovo (22 per cent), Xiaomi (17 per cent), Apple (5 per cent) and Voice (4 per cent).

Canalys said the polarisation trend was exacerbated in the second quarter, with increasing shipments in the price range below $100,500 and above, which is good for Apple because its entire portfolio is priced above $500.

Among them, Apple successfully launched the iPhone 13 series and its conservative pricing strategy, which achieved a 16% year-on-year increase in shipments in an environment of hyperinflation. Lenovo and Samsung also benefited from this trend, with shipments rising, although the two brands were not priced in the above two price ranges, and shipments by both companies were lower than the decline in the overall market.

In addition, Xiaomi's growth in shipments in Brazil and Argentina this quarter has maintained its growth momentum in those regions and narrowed the gap with Lenovo, the second-largest manufacturer.
