International Brotherhood of truck drivers sets up a new department: full-time responsible for Amazon employees

On the morning of Sept. 7, Beijing time, it was reported that the International Brotherhood of truck drivers, one of the largest trade unions in the United States, said on Tuesday that the union had set up a new department to focus on Amazon's employee union.

For years, the e-commerce giant has discouraged employees from unionizing. But in April, the worker-led Amazon union won when employees at a warehouse on Staten Island Island in New York City voted to join the group.

Last year, the International Brotherhood of truck drivers planned to set up a division dedicated to Amazon, the second-largest private employer in the United States.

"our new department provides all Amazon employees with a national network of resources," Sean O'Brien, president of the union, said in a statement. "whether they control the steering wheel of any truck or work hard anywhere, they work with the union to develop strategies to mobilize their communities and succeed together."

Amazon didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

In addition, the truckers' union, which has 1.2 million members, appointed Randy Korgan as head of Amazon's new division.
