The mission realized China's first unmanned sampling return to the moon, which is also the third step in the "orbit, fall and return" planned by China's lunar exploration project.

According to the current overall research and development progress, the relevant work on Chang'e-6 and Chang'e-7 will be completed before 2025, while the development of Chang'e-8 will be carried out at the same time, and the launch of Chang'e-8 will be completed by 2030.
