Google Chrome browser introduces provincial memory / power saving mode: reduce memory footprint

Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens Wu Yanzu and Coje_He for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, September 15 (Xinhua)-- Google Chrome browser has been criticized by users for its high memory and system resource usage, and the company has been looking to improve the performance of Chrome browsers, adding memory savings and power-saving modes to the new performance settings page in Chrome 107canary.

Google Chrome adds a new performance section to the settings page at chrome://settings/ performance, which allows users to turn on and use memory saving and power saving modes. It is important to point out that unless your computer is using the power of the battery, the power saving mode may not appear.

Memory saving mode is designed to save notebook power and memory consumption by hibernating inactive tags, similar to Edge's tag hibernation feature. When memory saving mode is turned on, Chrome reclaims memory from tags that are not actively used. This frees up computer resources for other tasks and maintains the speed of the Chrome browser. Inactive tags are displayed as empty and automatically reloaded when the user clicks them, while the power saving mode limits the frame rate to reduce power consumption.

How to enable memory savings and battery savings modes:

1. Visit chrome://flags

2. Search battery saver and efficiency mode

Efficient mode includes different options. You can choose the tag discarding time as 5 seconds, 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 1 hour and 30 seconds, and then restart the browser. After reboot, click the menu, select Settings, and the performance bar will appear, which will enable memory savings and power savings (for laptops).

CTOnews.com learned that both memory saving and power saving modes have visual cues, as shown in the following image:
