CTOnews.com, September 16 (Xinhua) NASA's perseverance probe has taken some amazing images since it landed on the red planet early last year, and recently the probe has brought a new panorama of Mars, consisting of more than 1000 individual images with a total pixel of 2.5 billion, which is also the most detailed Martian landscape ever taken from the Martian surface.

This image was taken in an ancient delta of the Jazelo crater, where perseverance is looking for signs of life as part of its second scientific activity. The delta was formed by a river that flowed into Lake Jazelo about 3.5 billion years ago and deposited soil and sand on the surface of the crater.

CTOnews.com learned that perseverance used its Mastcam-Z camera system to capture no less than 1118 individual images in mid-July, which were stitched together to form a 2.5-megapixel image.

The footprints of the perseverance probe can be seen on the far left of the image, and directly in front of it is a 32-foot (10-meter) rocky cliff. These rocks have been around for billions of years and have been eroded by the wind, slowly forming the jagged shape in the picture.

These rocks are considered to be some of the finest-grained sedimentary rocks in the delta, so they are good places to find life. As part of its scientific operations in the region, perseverance is drilling the rocks to analyze their chemistry and mineralogy.
