木拉提 Aksel, head of procurement for Volkswagen's board, told Germany's Automotive Weekly that Volkswagen no longer thought the chip shortage would end in 2023 and that the German carmaker was preparing for a "new normal" of supply chain disruptions.

"Investment in new capacity is now on track, but there may still be structural shortages in semiconductors before 2023, including 2023," Aksel said. "this is a structural problem that cannot be resolved so quickly."

Aksel also said that there was a shortage of wire harness supply after the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but the problem has now been resolved.

However, Aksel warns that "what we have seen in the supply chain over the past two years is the new normal." Volkswagen is investing heavily in early testing, he added. "as new geopolitical issues emerge, it will become more complex and challenging, if any," Aksel added.
