It is reported that Samsung system LSI will get more production capacity of UMC OLED display driver chips next year.
September 19, according to foreign media reports, according to sources, Samsung's system LSI business unit plans to obtain more OLED display driver chip production capacity from UMC next year because of the high demand for the product from its main customers.
Foreign media reported that the OLED display driver chip is not only used in high-end mobile phones, but also will infiltrate into pens, televisions and other applications.
At present, there are not many manufacturers around the world that can produce OLED display driver chips, including TSMC, Samsung Electronics, Lianhua Electronics, Grosvender and so on.
In June 2021, the research institute said that OLED display driver chips are mainly manufactured by 40nm and 28nm processes.
Today, foreign media reported that UMC has a 12-inch wafer production line that produces chips based on the 28nm process.
In addition to the OLED display driver chip, UMC also manufactures CMOS image sensors for Samsung. In April last year, foreign media reported that Samsung and UMC had signed an agreement to manufacture image sensors.
In March this year, industry chain sources revealed that UMC and Samsung had reached a higher contract price for a new long-term contract.
