Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Thanks to CTOnews.com netizens AVIDINTEL, grass Luo Yuzi for the clue delivery! CTOnews.com, September 20 (Xinhua)-- Russian astronaut Valery Polykov (Valeri Poliakov), who held the record for the longest single stay in space, has died at the age of 80, the Russian Aerospace State Group said on the 19th local time, according to CCTV news.
Valery Polykov was selected as an astronaut in 1972. From January 8, 1994 to March 22, 1995, Valery Polykov stayed at the Mir space station for 437 days and 18 hours, setting a record for a single human stay in space. He completed two space flights and stayed in orbit for a total of 678 days and 16 hours.
CTOnews.com learned that Polykov traveled to the Mir space station with the Soyuz TM-18 mission on January 8, 1994 and spent about 437 days conducting experiments and scientific research. During this flight, he completed more than 7000 orbits of the earth. On January 9, 1995, after 366 days in space flight, Polykov officially broke the space flight duration record set by Vladimir Titov and Musamanarov six years ago.
On March 22, 1995, he returned to Earth aboard the Soyuz TM-20. After landing, Polykov chose not to be carried between the Soyuz capsule and the nearby lawn chair, but to walk a short distance. By doing so, he hopes to prove that humans can work on the surface of Mars after a long transit.
