According to news in the morning of September 22, Beijing time, Japan's Softbank Corp. Group said it would discuss the formation of a strategic partnership between Arm, the British chip design department, and Samsung Electronics of South Korea.

"I want to discuss the strategic alliance between Samsung and Arm," Masayoshi Son, chief executive of Softbank Corp. Group, said in a statement on Wednesday. He is planning to visit South Korea for the first time in the past three years.

Mr son sees Arm as the "core of the core" of his investment group's business and sees the expansion of the division as the group's top priority. As Softbank Corp. 's portfolio is affected by the downturn in global technology-related stocks, he is likely to hope to pave the way for a partnership between Arm and Samsung by visiting South Korea's semiconductor giant Samsung in person, which could accelerate Arm growth.

Arm designs chips for the world's leading chipmakers, such as Qualcomm and Intel, and about 90% of the world's smartphones contain chips designed by Arm. Softbank Corp. Group has previously announced that it plans to complete the listing of Arm as early as this year.
