According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla recalled nearly 1.1 million U.S. cars because the window auto-reversal system may not respond correctly after detecting obstacles, increasing the risk of customer injury, CTOnews.com reported on September 22.

Tesla told the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that the automatic window reversal system will be updated with OTA. The recall involves some 2017-2022 Model 3, 2020-2021 Model Y and 2021-2022 Model S and Model X vehicles.

Tesla said it was not clear about any warranty claims, on-site reports, collisions, injuries or deaths related to the recall.

NHTSA said that closing windows without a proper automatic reversal system could increase the risk of injury by squeezing the driver or passenger too much before retraction.

NHTSA said the vehicles did not meet the requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standards for electric windows.

Tesla said that during the product test in August, employees found that the performance of the window auto-reversal system "changed more than expected to pinch detection".

After extensive additional testing, Tesla determined that the vehicle pinch detection and retraction performance in the test results did not meet the requirements of the automatic reversal system.

CTOnews.com learned that Tesla said that starting from September 13, vehicles in production and before delivery will receive software updates to set the operation of electric windows to meet requirements.
