CTOnews.com Sept. 27, semiconductor market conditions have reversed, affecting the supply chain one after another, and now it is reported that TSMC's biggest customer Apple has rejected the company's plan to raise prices next year. TSMC declined to comment on the customer-related price news today (27), Taiwan's Economic Daily reported.

Originally, it was reported in the industry that TSMC would increase its price next year, with a range of about 6% to 9% depending on the manufacturing process, but it was later reported that there was a negotiated amendment, with the increase jumping from 3% to 6% in terms of mature process. However, the latest rumors are that Apple, a big customer, has refused to raise the price.

CTOnews.com has learned that Apple is TSMC's largest customer, with an estimated revenue share of more than 25 per cent.

The COVID-19 epidemic environment in the past two or three years has led to a sharp increase in market demand for semiconductors, resulting in a shortage of wafer foundry capacity. TSMC, the global wafer foundry leader, cancelled the price discount measure of 2% to 3% for the first time in 2021, and there was a rumored price increase in 2022, but the related increase was still mild compared with other industries.

Even if we add in the price increases planned for next year, people in the industry say bluntly that during the price increases in the past two years, compared with other peers, the cumulative increase of TSMC is actually not high. It is just that the pace of price increase of TSMC is relatively slow, and the planned price increase in 2023 coincides with a reversal in the semiconductor market, which is why there is resistance, and there are voices of customers hoping that the company will make a profit at a time of hardship.
