On Semet expands Silicon Carbide Plant in Czech Republic
On September 28, onsemi celebrated the completion of its expanded silicon carbide (SiC) plant in the Czech Republic-Roznov.
Since 2019, on Semet has increased the production of SiC polished wafers and SiC epitaxial (hereinafter referred to as "EPI") wafers on the basis of its existing silicon polished and epitaxial wafer and chip production in Roznov. As the original site could not meet the demand, new plants began to be built last year to further expand the production of wafers and SiC EPI.
The expansion will increase the base's SiC capacity 16-fold over the next two years and create 200 jobs by the end of 2024. So far, on has invested more than $150 million in the Roznov base and plans to invest an additional $300m by 2023.
