CTOnews.com, September 28, local time on September 27, SEMI released a report saying that global fab equipment spending in 2022 is expected to grow by about 9% year-on-year, reaching an all-time high of $99 billion (about 709.83 billion yuan).

Ajit Manocha, president and CEO of SEMI, said that after reaching a record level in 2022, the global wafer equipment market is expected to continue to develop healthily next year, driven by new fab construction and upgrading. The report expects:

Taiwan will lead fab equipment spending in 2022, with investment rising 47% year-on-year to $30 billion (about 215.1 billion yuan).

This was followed by South Korea, which reached US $22.2 billion (about 159.174 billion yuan), down 5.5%.

The Chinese mainland area was $22 billion (about 157.74 billion yuan), down 11.7% from last year's peak.

Spending in Europe / the Middle East is expected to reach a record $6.6 billion (about 47.322 billion yuan) this year, up 141% from a year earlier.

Investment in the Americas and Southeast Asia will also hit an all-time high in 2023.

CTOnews.com has learned that the report points out that global capacity will grow by 7.7 per cent this year, following 7.4 per cent growth in 2021. Production capacity is expected to continue to grow by 5.3% in 2023. In addition, the Foundry component will account for 53 per cent of equipment expenditure in 2022 and 2023, followed by memory, accounting for 32 per cent and 33 per cent in 2022 and 2023, respectively. These two blocks have seen the biggest increase in production capacity.
