Beijing, September 29 (Xinhua) just three months after Oracle founder Larry Ellison stepped down as an independent director, Tesla appointed Airbnb co-founder Joe Gebbia as the new director. Tesla now has a total of eight directors, including CEO Elon Musk (Elon Musk) and his brother Kimbar Musk (Kimbal Musk).

Tesla disclosed Gibia's appointment in a securities filing on Wednesday, effective Sept. 25. The move brought another friend and ally to Tesla's board, apparently Mr Musk. The two entrepreneurs began to get in touch with each other at least as early as 2018, when Mr Musk announced plans to take Tesla private at $420 a share in a now infamous tweet, "Baller move" Gibea texted Mr Musk at the time.

In July this year, Gibia stepped down from his post in Airbnb. He said in an open letter at the time that he would spend more time with his family and explore new projects. He co-founded Airbnb in 2008 with Airbnb CEO Ryan Chesky (Brian Chesky) and chief strategy officer Nathan Brechachick (Nathan Blecharczyk). Gibia will continue to serve on Airbnb's board of directors and its non-profit organization Airbnb.org.
