From this month, Apple's SIM card will not be used to activate carrier packages on iPad.

CTOnews.com, Oct. 2, according to an Apple support document, Apple SIM cards will not be used to activate new cellular packages on supported iPad models from October 1.

Apple's SIM card (Apple SIM) was launched in 2014 to enable cellular iPad users to activate packages from multiple carriers around the world. At first, the Apple SIM card was a physical nano-SIM card, but then it was embedded directly into the later iPad Pro model. Apple SIM card is similar to modern eSIM technology, but the support for operators is limited.

The following cellular iPad models use a physical Apple SIM card:

IPad Air 2

IPad mini 3

IPad mini 4

First generation 12.9in iPad Pro

IPad 5

IPad 6

The following cellular iPad models use embedded Apple SIM cards:

9.7in iPad Pro

10.5 inch iPad Pro

The second generation of 12.9in iPad Pro

CTOnews.com learned that all the iPad models listed above use physical Apple SIM cards and cannot be used to change packages or activate new ones. Apple's support document advises users to contact their carriers for details on how to activate cellular packages on these iPad models.
