Samsung introduces the latest memory solution: 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X and 36Gbps GDDR7 are on the way
CTOnews.com, October 6 (Xinhua)-- Samsung Electronics today held Samsung Technology Day 2022, which showcased a range of cutting-edge semiconductor solutions aimed at driving the decade's digital transformation.
In terms of memory, Samsung said that Samsung's 1b DRAM is currently under development and is scheduled for production in 2023. To overcome the challenge of extending DRAM beyond the scope of 10nm, the company has been developing solutions.
Samsung then introduced upcoming DRAM solutions, such as 32Gb DDR5 DRAM, 8.5Gbps LPDDR5X DRAM and 36Gbps GDDR7 DRAM, which will bring new features to the data center, HPC, mobile, gaming and automotive markets.
CTOnews.com learned that the latest generation of graphics cards are still equipped with GDDR6 (X) series graphics memory, and the faster 36Gbps GDDR7 memory is expected to be adopted by the medium-term revamping of RTX 40 and RX 7000 series graphics cards.
In addition to traditional DRAM, Samsung stressed the importance of customized DRAM solutions such as HBM-PIM, AXDIMM and CXL, which can drive system-level innovation to better handle the explosive growth of global data.
