Google to open its first data center in Japan in 2023
CTOnews.com, October 11 (Xinhua) Google will open a data center in Japan next year. This is the first time Google has built a new data center in Asia since 2013.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai recently announced a visit to Japan on his blog, saying that the company will open its first data center in Chiba Prefecture in 2023. Google had previously said it would invest $730 million (5.212 billion yuan) by next year to expand its Japanese infrastructure. CTOnews.com learned that the data center was part of the plan.
Japan will become the third Asian region to have Google data centers after Taiwan and Singapore.
Google's main services in South Korea, such as Play Store, YouTube and Gmail, are provided through overseas servers. It uses leased LG U + data centers to provide cloud services. Google has been criticized for not setting up a data center in South Korea to avoid huge taxes from the South Korean government. Google is estimated to generate trillions of won in sales in South Korea, but pays less than 10 billion won in corporate tax because it does not have a fixed place of business in South Korea, such as a data center.
