CTOnews.com, October 12 (Xinhua)-- Airbus today delivered an A320neo aircraft to China Eastern Airlines at its delivery center in Tianjin, which will use 5% sustainable aviation fuel ("SAF" for short). This will be the first SAF delivery flight of a single-aisle aircraft assembled by Airbus in China.

According to reports, sustainable aviation fuel is an alternative fuel produced in a sustainable way, using waste animal and vegetable oils, oils, municipal solid waste and agricultural and forestry wastes as raw materials. Compared with traditional fossil fuels, SAF fuels generate up to 85 per cent less carbon emissions from raw material collection to end-user use.

Different from the previous SAF flights realized by Airbus in Europe, the SAF fuel for this delivery is purchased by Airbus from China Aviation Oil Group Co., Ltd., and refined and produced by Sinopec Zhenhai Refinery using waste catering oil as raw materials. It is the first batch of domestic SAF fuel after large-scale production of China's first sustainable aviation fuel industrial plant.

In the future, all customers receiving Airbus aircraft in Tianjin will have the option of using a certain proportion of SAF fuel in delivery flights.

CTOnews.com has learned that all Airbus aircraft can currently use up to 50 per cent of SAF mixed with aviation fuel, and Airbus plans to obtain 100 per cent SAF commercial flight forensics by 2030. Since March 2021, Airbus has completed test flights using 100% SAF on the A350, A319neo and A380.
