Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
CTOnews.com October 13, Germany's Lufthansa said today that it will not ban the use of Apple AirTag and other Bluetooth trackers in checked baggage. After receiving guidance from German aviation authorities, Lufthansa confirmed that due to the low battery and transmission power of the AirTag, it did not pose a safety risk in the luggage.
The airline had previously informed passengers that AirTags in checked baggage needed to be closed due to guidelines laid down by the International Civil Aviation Organization. Lufthansa said that because of its transmission function, AirTags is subject to ICAO dangerous goods regulations, so it needs to be "suspended" during flight. Lufthansa clarifies that it has not banned Apple's AirTag tracker from being used for baggage check, which it previously called "dangerous goods".
The AirTag cannot be turned off without removing the battery from the device, so the only solution is not to place the activated AirTag in the checked baggage. Many Apple users have added AirTag to their luggage for tracking, so Lufthansa's new decision is good for consumers.
In a statement to the New York Times, Apple said the AirTag is not dangerous and in fact "complies with the safety regulations of international airlines for carry-on and checked baggage."
The TSA also confirmed to the New York Times that other Bluetooth-based trackers from companies such as AirTag and Tile are allowed in carry-on and checked baggage.
