The price of "environmental protection": Apple was fined another $1900 by Brazil for not having a charger with the iPhone.
Beijing, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) A Brazilian court fined Apple 100 million reais (136 million yuan) on Thursday and ruled that Apple's new iPhone phones sold in Brazil must be equipped with battery chargers.
The iPhone 14 series lawsuit, filed by a Brazilian association of borrowers, consumers and taxpayers, alleges that Apple abused its flagship products by selling them without chargers.
A court in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil, ruled against Apple on Thursday. "it is clear that the defendant forced consumers to buy the charger adapter previously supplied with the product on the grounds of 'green protection'." The court said in its judgment.
Apple said it would appeal the decision. Previously, Apple argued that the purpose of not sending chargers was to reduce carbon emissions.
