CTOnews.com October 20 news, today Xiaomi founder Lei Jun shared some of his views on the electric vehicle industry on social platforms. Lei Jun said that before Xiaomi entered the electric vehicle industry, he had conducted in-depth research on electric vehicles and gained some insights.

Lei Jun believes that electric car is a kind of consumer electronic products with intelligence, software and user experience as the core. The nature of the automotive industry will evolve from machinery to consumer electronics, with market share highly concentrated in top enterprises.

Lei Jun believes that when the electric car industry enters a mature stage, the top five brands in the world will occupy more than 80 per cent of the market share. "in other words, the only way for us to succeed is to be one of the top five and ship more than 10 million vehicles a year. The competition will be cruel."

Last month, Lei Jun said that Tesla entered the electric car industry more than 10 years earlier than Xiaomi, and some people thought Xiaomi had missed the time window to enter the electric car industry. Lei Jun does not agree with this, he believes that the game has just begun, that Xiaomi still has a lot of opportunities.

In an internal speech at the end of last month, Lei Jun revealed that Xiaomi's first engineering vehicle had been officially offline. In August this year, Lei Jun announced that Xiaomi's autopilot technology had entered the testing stage, and also released a live video of the road test of the autopilot technology, demonstrating its autopilot algorithm and the ability of full scene coverage. Lei Jun revealed that the first phase of Xiaomi's self-driving technology plans 140 test cars, which will be tested across the country one after another, with the goal of entering the first camp of the industry in 2024.

CTOnews.com learned that Xiaomi Automobile will build a complete vehicle plant in two phases in the Beijing Economic and technological Development Zone, with a cumulative annual production capacity of 300000 vehicles and a production capacity of 150000 vehicles for both Phase I and Phase II. In 2024, the first car of Xiaomi will be launched and mass produced in Beijing Economic and technological Development Zone.
