Korean R & D robot hand: the design is inspired by the elephant trunk, fine needles and delivery boxes can be easily picked up.
CTOnews.com, October 22 (Xinhua) recently, the Korea Machinery Research Institute has developed a robot hand that can easily hold objects of different sizes and thicknesses based on the working principle of the elephant trunk.
The top of the robot hand is made of soft silicone, and the inner honeycomb structure allows it to curl up like a nose, ranging from fine needles to delivery boxes that can be easily picked up.
CTOnews.com learned that the robot hand can pick up things by grasping or absorbing, and the researchers created the robot hand by putting together a flexible structure made up of a shape-changing wire and a flexible thin wall. The robot hand contains a plurality of microfluidic channels for forming a vacuum inside the device. Because its microfluidic path is flexible, the grasping part of the device is soft and can adjust itself to fit the shape of any object.
The robot hand can pick up a needle 0.25 mm in diameter from the ground, or an object ten times larger than the robot hand, the researchers said.
The research institute says the robot hand can be used in many fields because it can not only grasp objects, but also move objects stably without mechanical equipment or sensors. The research team hopes to make this robot hand serve human beings in daily life by combining artificial intelligence.
