CTOnews.com, October 25, Strategy Analytics Mobile phone components Technical Services report "smartphone Image Sensor Market share 2022 Q2: demand continues to weaken" pointed out that the total revenue of the global smartphone image sensor market was $6.4 billion, with shipments down 11% year-on-year.

Strategy Analytics's research found that the market for smartphone image sensors fell 5 per cent in the first half of 2022 compared with the same period last year. Sony semiconductor solutions topped the list with a 44 per cent share of revenue, followed by Samsung systems LSI and OMNIVISION. Sony, Samsung and OMNIVISION account for nearly 83 per cent of the global smartphone image sensor market. CTOnews.com has learned that in multi-camera applications for smartphones, the market share of image sensors for Depth and Macro apps has fallen to 26 per cent, while the market share of Ultrawide apps has risen to 20 per cent.

Jeffrey Mathews, senior analyst at Strategy Analytics, said: "due to the decline in smartphone demand and inventory in the customer supply chain during this period, the adoption of multi-cameras in the smartphone image sensor market has slowed. Sony has increased its market share by working with the leading smartphone OEM to develop large-size and high-resolution image sensor products. In addition, Samsung continues to lead the demand for high resolution by providing 200MP CIS products to customers, while Omnivision has lost market share due to disruption to Chinese customers caused by the outbreak. "

Stephen Entwistle, vice president of strategic technology practice at Strategy Analytics, added: "as demand continues to sluggish, OEM is expected to create opportunities in smartphones that target high-end and ultra-high-end imaging capabilities. The launch of flagship smartphones with high-resolution cameras will improve the smartphone image sensor market in the short term."
