CTOnews.com Global PC shipments fell 15.5% year-on-year to 71.1 million units in the third quarter of 2022, according to Counterpoint Research's latest data, another huge year-on-year decline following a severe annual decline in the second quarter.

The report said the quarterly decline was mainly due to declining demand in consumer and business markets as a result of global inflation. Although the shortage of parts has been largely resolved, OEMs and ODMs remain relatively conservative about the fourth quarter of 2022 and the first half of 2023.

Among them, Apple recorded a 7% year-on-year shipment growth despite insufficient overall market momentum. Meanwhile, ASUS shipments fell only 9% year-on-year in the quarter, in line with its management's shipment targets set for 2022.

CTOnews.com understands that Counterpoint Research said Lenovo recorded a 16% month-on-month decline, which is largely in line with the global PC market, with the decline in consumer demand partially offset by corporate spending. Its market share of 23.7 percent was unchanged from last year.

Hp shipped 12.7 million units in the third quarter, accounting for 18% of the total. This is the second quarter since 2016 that HP's market share fell below 20%. Dell recorded a 20% year-over-year decline in shipments and a 17% market share, with 12 million units shipped slightly higher than in the third quarter of 2020.
