After acquiring Twitter, Musk plans to restart the short video application Vine.

CTOnews.com, Nov. 1, according to Axios, Elon Musk has asked Twitter engineers to start working on a new version of Vine, a short video app, which may be launched before the end of the year. Musk posted a survey on Twitter yesterday asking him whether he should "bring Vine back", and 69.5% of the 4 million voting netizens agreed.

CTOnews.com learned that Twitter bought Vine, a short video app, as early as 2012, allowing users to shoot and share six-second short video clips, when Vine was very popular and before the advent of the popular short video app TikTok. The app was gradually abandoned by users, and Twitter finally shut it down in 2016.

The restarted version of Vine can compete with TikTok, and Twitter engineers were reportedly told to check Vine's code base, which has not changed since the app was shut down. One source said it "takes a lot of work".

Musk completed his $44 billion acquisition of Twitter on Friday, serving as chief executive himself and firing a number of Twitter executives, including former CEO Palag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal and policy chief Vijaya Gard. Musk is now the sole director of Twitter.
