Microsoft Surface Duo / Duo 2 Android 12L adds experimental "mandatory desktop mode"

CTOnews.com, Nov. 2, Microsoft Surface Duo and Surface Duo 2 recently released Android 12L updates with Windows 11-style designs, new wallpaper and many design elements, new stylus menus, and more. Recently, Surface Duo enthusiasts Shane Craig shared a new feature: allowing access to Windows PC through remote Desktop (RDP) applications using Surface Duo devices.

Shane Craig shows these details in his YouTube video, which can be done by plugging the device into the dock, and demonstrates how the "force desktop mode" feature works.

CTOnews.com has learned that this feature currently exists in developer mode. You can activate it by first enabling developer mode and going to Settings > system > developer option. The user can then switch to the "force desktop mode" option, which is described as "force experimental desktop mode on the secondary monitor".

Once the device is activated and plugged into the base, no change is seen on one end of the Surface Duo device. Shane Craig pointed out that the base is connected to the monitor, keyboard and mouse, and the device can still be used after the device is connected to the base. The computer monitor will display the remote desktop application icon, and the user can click the action. You can choose to connect to the network or the Windows PC available in the cloud. It also allows you to add more PC and connect to other applications.
