CTOnews.com, November 3, according to the Taiwan Economic Daily, institutional data show that 41 wafer foundries will be built worldwide from 2022 to 2025, equivalent to the current total of 12-inch factories in Taiwan.

Among them, with TSMC, Samsung, Intel, Micron, and Texas Instruments investing heavily in expanding production in the United States, the United States has the largest number of new wafer factories in the next three years, up to nine, including eight 12-inch factories and an 8-inch factory.

Analysts pointed out that due to the growing demand for semiconductor applications and geographical factors, the global wafer expansion trend is expected to start the construction of 41 new plants from 2022 to 2025, but it also produces more carbon footprint. the semiconductor industry must improve problems such as high power consumption and high carbon emissions.

CTOnews.com has learned that global semiconductor manufacturers'8-inch fab capacity is expected to increase by 20 per cent between 2021 and 2025, according to the SEMI report. Among them, the production capacity of automobile and power semiconductor wafer factories will be the first with a growth rate of 58 per cent, followed by MEMS growth of 21 per cent, foundry growth of 20 per cent and simulated growth of 14 per cent.
