Zhejiang Jingning pumped storage power station starts construction, with a designed annual capacity of 1.4 billion kilowatt-hours

According to the official website of China Electric Power Construction, the groundbreaking ceremony for Zhejiang Jingning pumped storage power station project was held on November 2, according to CTOnews.com news on November 3. Zhejiang Jingning pumped Storage Power Station is listed in the medium-and long-term Development Plan of pumped Storage (2021-2035), which is a key project in Zhejiang Province during the 14th five-year Plan.

After completion, it mainly undertakes the tasks of peak regulation, valley filling, energy storage, frequency modulation, phase modulation and reserve of Zhejiang Power Grid.

CTOnews.com learned that pumped storage power stations can make use of the natural drop between upper and lower reservoirs according to the law of peak and valley of power use. when the power load is low, they can use electricity to pump water from the lower reservoir to the upper reservoir, which can be effectively stored, and the stored potential energy can be converted into electricity needed by users at the peak of electricity consumption.

As of November 1, the State Grid operating area has 70 pumped storage power stations under construction and 85.24 million kilowatts of installed capacity, which is 3.2 and 4.1 times that of 2012, respectively, and the installed capacity is expected to reach 100 million kilowatts by 2030.
