CTOnews.com understands that Aqara said that the new Matter home control hub has Bridge, Controller, Thread Border Router, Commissioner and other functions.
Bridge (multi-protocol bridge): It is still a multi-mode gateway, which can bridge Zigbee and BLE protocol devices and access to Matter.
Support Matter Controller: Smart Home Hub M3 can discover and connect third-party Matter devices around it, and add it to Aqara Home App to achieve cross-ecosystem collaboration. For example, after binding Smart Home Hub M3 through Aqara S1 Plus, you can control all Matter devices.
Thread Border Router: Smart Home Hub M3 can be used as Thread Border Router, making Thread devices easy to discover and communicate with devices outside the Thread network, supporting Thread Mesh networking, and having single-point failure self-recovery capability.
MagicPair: With the help of device terminals, factory production and cloud technology, it is possible to quickly discover and add Matter devices in batches without scanning Matter device codes. Users do not need to add devices one by one after getting the devices.
In addition, Aqara door and window sensor P2 is released together with human illumination sensor P2, which can monitor the opening and closing of doors and windows, human & pet movement monitoring, illumination detection, and bring about an improvement in the use experience. In the future, Aqara will also launch more Matter over Thread products.
At present, Aqara gateway M2, door and window sensor P2 and human illumination sensor P2 have passed Matter certification. In the future, all series of Aqara gateways will support Matter through OTA upgrade. Users do not need to purchase new devices. They only need to upgrade the firmware of the original gateway device in their hands to support Matter, and let the sub-devices also support Matter.
Aqara said it will release firmware updates for six consecutive years and expects to achieve 10+ categories and 160+ SKU products supporting Matter by 2023.
