CTOnews.com Apple has settled a lawsuit against former designer Simon Lancaster, who the company accused of stealing trade secrets and sharing them with a journalist. The company filed a lawsuit in March 2021, and a judge approved the settlement order this week.

Apple claims in its lawsuit: "Despite working for Apple for more than a decade, Lancaster abused his position and trust within the company to systematically disseminate sensitive Apple trade secret information for personal gain. He used his credentials to gain access to internal meetings and documents outside his job description that contained Apple trade secrets, which he shared with his outside media reporters. "

According to Apple's lawsuit, Lancaster and the unnamed journalist were first contacted in November 2018, and the company accused Lancaster of sharing details of unreleased hardware, unannounced feature changes and future product announcements with the journalist. Apple also alleges that Lancaster downloaded confidential documents before leaving the company in November 2019 that would "benefit his new employer." (Lancaster left Arris in 2021, according to his LinkedIn.)

CTOnews.com understands that Lancaster will pay Apple an undisclosed sum as part of the settlement and is prohibited from "disclosing, communicating, transferring, discussing or using any confidential information in any form without Apple's prior express written authorization." Apple and Lancaster did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
