CTOnews.com, Nov. 7 (Xinhua) in a recent study released by the research institute, Toyota was listed as one of the "most hindered companies in the world for climate policy in 2022."

Toyota ranks last among the top 10 carmakers in decarbonization efforts, with less than 1 per cent of total sales of zero-emission vehicles (non-hybrid vehicles) and the least developed carbon reduction supply chain, Greenpeace found.

CTOnews.com learned that Toyota has been offering hybrids for more than two decades, providing a means for the transition to zero-emission, all-electric. Still, Toyota has been sticking to its hybrid strategy, offering hybrid, fuel-cell and gas-powered vehicles, rather than a full transition to zero-emission vehicles.

Toyota joined a number of oil and gas companies in the list, as can be seen from the list released by InfluenceMap, a climate think-tank.

Ed Collins, director of InfluenceMap, said: many of the companies on the list have made the highest commitment to tackling climate change, but in fact continue to implement specific policies against this goal.

At the same time, the study noted that Toyota had "improved its climate policy participation" but was still leading "global car lobbying efforts against the policy of phasing out internal combustion engine-powered cars".
