CTOnews.com, November 7, according to Taiwan's Central News Agency, fabs received NT $24.344 billion (about 5.502 billion yuan) in October, a six-month low.

Specifically, UMC's October revenue rose 27.07% from a year earlier, down 3.46% from a month earlier, and revenue fell for two consecutive months, the lowest level since May this year. In the first 10 months of this year, UMC had cumulative revenue of 235.213 billion New Taiwan dollars (about 53.158 billion yuan), an increase of 35.91 percent over the same period last year.

UMC expects that in the fourth quarter, operations will be affected by inventory adjustment in the semiconductor industry, capacity utilization may drop to 90%, wafer shipments will be reduced by about 10%, and the average selling price of products will be flat.

CTOnews.com learned that the company said that due to the continued destocking of the computer and smartphone markets, UMC's revenue is expected to fall further in November and December, with demand for 8-inch wafers relatively weaker than 12-inch wafers.
