I became a "stand-in" and Musk said that Twitter would permanently ban users impersonating accounts.

CTOnews.com, Nov. 7 (Xinhua)-- before buying Twitter, Elon Musk said he opposed a lifetime ban and promised to restore the identity of some banned users. Now, Musk writes, Twitter will permanently block account imitators if they are not explicitly labeled as "imitators." The move came after several verified "blue authenticated" users changed their accounts to impersonate Musk himself.

Twitter seems to have just banned comedian Kathy Griffin from impersonating Musk, at least temporarily, after she used Musk's name and image on her verified Twitter account. Other verified accounts posing as Musk, including actor Jeph Jacques, also seem to have been kicked off the site.

Before Musk took over, Twitter rules stipulated that users "may not impersonate individuals, groups or organizations to mislead, confuse or deceive others, nor use false identities in a way that undermines the user's experience on Twitter". Copycat accounts are required to be stated in both their accounts and resumes. The consequences include modification of personal data, temporary or permanent suspension-although the latter is rarely implemented.

CTOnews.com learned that recently a large number of manufacturers have suspended advertising on Twitter. In response to users' suggestions to boycott these companies, Musk said: "if this situation continues, we will start to name and humiliate these manufacturers."
