Report says Samsung Electronics' DRAM market share hit an eight-year low

CTOnews.com Samsung Electronics 'share of the global DRAM market has fallen to an eight-year low, according to the latest report.

According to a report released by Eugene Investment & Securities on November 8, the global DRAM market sales in the third quarter were 17.973 billion US dollars (currently about 130.125 billion yuan), down 29.3% from 25.427 billion US dollars in the second quarter.

Samsung Electronics 'DRAM sales fell 33.7 percent to $7.371 billion in the third quarter from $11.121 billion in the second quarter, outpacing the overall market decline. As a result, its market share of sales also fell from 43.7% in the second quarter to 41.0% in the third quarter, a drop of 2.7 percentage points.

CTOnews.com understands that this is the lowest share in eight years since the third quarter of 2014, according to IDC data. On the other hand, SK Hynix and Micron Technology, which ranked second and third in market share, declined relatively little compared with Samsung Electronics.

SK Hynix's sales fell from $7.011 billion to $5.298 billion (currently about 38.358 billion yuan), while Micron's sales fell from $5.941 billion to $4.349 billion (currently about 31.487 billion yuan). In the third quarter, SK Hynix's market share was 29.5% and Micron's was 24.2%, up 1.9 percentage points and 0.8 percentage points respectively from the previous quarter.
