CTOnews.com, November 10 (Xinhua)-- EasyGo, Ireland's largest private electric vehicle charging network, today announced a new investment plan to build DC fast charging piles in towns and villages, which will be built in old telephone booths.

With the popularity of mobile phones, telephone booths have long been a thing of the past. As a result, Eir, an Irish telecoms company, and EasyGo, an electric car charging network, began transforming phone booths into Tritium electric car charging posts about two years ago. This new infrastructure will benefit the community like the public pay phone booth in the past.

EasyGo has pledged to deploy 200 Tritium 50 kilowatt modular DC fast charging piles across Ireland under the program, and the company now has 2400 charging piles.

According to the Irish Association of Automobile Manufacturers (Society of the Irish Motor Industry), one out of every seven cars sold in Ireland this year is pure electric, and the popularity of electric vehicles in the country is growing rapidly.

CTOnews.com learned that transport accounts for 1/3 of Ireland's energy-related carbon dioxide emissions. Increasing the penetration of electric vehicles is a key aspect of the Irish Climate Action Plan, which sets a target of nearly 1 million electric vehicles on the road by 2030.
