Plugable launches new USB-C docking station: Apple M1 / M2 Mac can support up to 4 external monitors
CTOnews.com, Nov. 10, Plugable's new Quad HDMI adapter allows Apple users to support up to four external monitors on an M1 Mac.
Plugable says its new USB-to-HDMI adapter is ideal for multitasking or expanding the workspace. Connected by a USB-C cable, the docking station supports four monitors, each with a resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels and a frequency of 60Hz or less.
This Dock is ideal for running Office-related applications such as Google Docs or Microsoft Office. CTOnews.com has learned that the company does not recommend the product for games or other graphics-intensive jobs. Playback of HDCP-protected content on the site, including Netflix and Hulu, is not supported.
In general, there are some restrictions on support for external monitors on Mac. On MacBook Air or MacBook Pro, the M1 chip can be connected to an external monitor through USB-C. Mac mini supports connecting 1 monitor through HDMI and 1 monitor through USB-C.
Plugable says the adapter allows up to four monitors to run on any M1 or M2 Mac. The driver needs to be installed through the InstantView application.
The Plugable USB-C or USB 3.0 Quad HDMI adapter costs $119,000,000.
