CTOnews.com November 11 news, Japanese Minister of economy, Trade and Industry Yasuni Nishimura announced the launch of the "Post 5G Information and Communication system Infrastructure Enhancement Research and Development Project" on November 11. The Japanese government will provide 70 billion yen (about 3.514 billion yuan) in subsidies to Rapidus, a semiconductor company jointly established by Toyota, Sony, Japan Telecom, Japan Denso, Softbank Corp. and other eight Japanese enterprises. The aim is to re-establish Japan as a leading manufacturer of advanced chips.

CTOnews.com learned that Rapidus will cooperate with IBM and other companies in the United States to develop 2nm semiconductor technology, establish a short turnaround time (TAT) test line, and introduce EUV lithography equipment. According to reports, the new company will carry out artificial intelligence, intelligent city construction and other related high-end chip development, and plans to achieve mass production in 2027.

According to the plan of Japan's Ministry of economy, Trade and Industry, Rapidus will be contributed 1 billion yen by Toyota, Sony, Softbank Corp., Meixia, Nippon Denso, Nippon Electric and Nippon Telecom respectively, and 300 million yen by Mitsubishi UFJ Bank.
