The Japanese government will provide 70 billion yen (about 3.514 billion yuan) in subsidies to Rapidus, a semiconductor company jointly established by Toyota, Sony, Japan Telecom, Japan Denso, Softbank Corp. and other eight Japanese enterprises. The aim is to re-establish Japan as a leading manufacturer of advanced chips.

CTOnews.com learned that Rapidus will cooperate with IBM and other companies in the United States to develop 2nm semiconductor technology, establish a short turnaround time (TAT) test line, and introduce EUV lithography equipment. According to reports, the new company will carry out artificial intelligence, intelligent city construction and other related high-end chip development, and plans to achieve mass production in 2027.
