CTOnews.com, November 12, Tesla announced in a blog post today that Tesla is opening his electric car charging gun design to the world, and invited charging network operators and automakers to use Tesla's charging gun and charging ports.

Tesla said the gun is the most mature in North America and can provide both AC charging and DC charging of up to 1 megawatt.

"the charging gun has no moving parts, is only half the size and is twice as powerful as the Joint charging system (CCS) charging gun," Tesla said. "as part of its mission to accelerate the world's transition to sustainable energy, Tesla is providing the design free of charge to carmakers and charging network operators."

Tesla renamed his charging gun and port to the North American charging Standard (NACS), which he said is the most common charging standard in North America.

Tesla owners will soon be able to recharge their vehicles on other networks without an adapter. Tesla pointed out that network operators have planned to add NACS standards to their charging posts.

"We look forward to future electric vehicles using NACS design and charging at Tesla's North American supercharging station and destination charging network," Tesla said.

CTOnews.com learned that Tesla also provided design and specification documents and said it was working to codify the charging gun into a public standard. These documents include technical specifications, AC / DC pin sharing, data sheets for DC and AC charging guns, and three CAD files.
