CTOnews.com November 17 news, according to CCTV news, local time on November 16, Amazon confirmed that it has begun to lay off staff, but did not specify the number of layoffs. Earlier, several US media said Amazon planned to cut about 10,000 jobs this week.

Reported that the continued economic recession in the United States and rising interest rates and other factors put the technology industry in trouble, including Facebook parent companies Meta and Twitter, and other large technology companies have recently announced substantial layoffs.

CTOnews.com learned that US media had previously quoted people familiar with the matter as saying that Amazon's layoffs are mainly aimed at corporate employees and may affect the equipment department, including popular Alexa products, as well as human resources and retail departments. Amazon's retail division is the main business unit that has experienced a slowdown in online sales this year.

In addition, it is reported that Amazon has also begun to lay off hiring contractors, who have been told in the past few weeks that the entrustment will end abruptly.

Amazon's approach contrasts with the company's massive expansion during the outbreak. From the end of 2019 to the end of 2021, Amazon employed more than 800,000 people, mainly in its hundreds of warehouses, to keep up with the surge in online orders, according to the data.
