CTOnews.com, November 20 (Xinhua)-- Semiconductor shipments are expected to hit a record high this year, according to Taiwan's Central News Agency. The American Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said that this will help ease the global chip shortage.

In its annual industry report, SIA said the importance of semiconductors to the global economy continues to rise, and the industry continues to work to accelerate innovation and increase production.

SIA said the semiconductor industry will continue to face major challenges. Semiconductor sales growth slowed sharply in the second half of this year and is not expected to recover until the second half of 2023.

CTOnews.com learned that SIA data showed that global semiconductor sales fell 0.5% month-on-month in September 2022, down 3% from a year earlier, the first decline since January 2020. In the third quarter of 2022, global semiconductor sales totaled $141 billion (about 1.01 trillion yuan), down 3.0% from a year earlier and 6.3% from a month earlier.
