Hyundai Automobile Group will build an artificial intelligence robot research institute to drive itself and travel on its own.
South Korea's Hyundai Motor Group said Tuesday it would set up an artificial intelligence robot research institute in the United States to consolidate its position as a provider of intelligent mobile travel solutions while enhancing the competitiveness of future industries such as "Robotics" and autonomous driving, Yonhap reported.
According to reports, Hyundai Motor Group has set up an artificial intelligence robot research institute in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA. Its Hyundai Motor, Kia and Hyundai Mobis will invest 424 million US dollars for this purpose.
Boston Dynamics, a robotics engineering company acquired in the US last year, will also hold a small stake in the institute.
According to reports, the institute will give priority to ensuring that the basic technology for developing a new generation of robots is mastered, that is, while developing technologies such as robot motion intelligence and cognitive functions, the controllable limits of robots are challenged through externally collected data. The Institute also plans to develop artificial intelligence models that can improve the versatility of robots.
