Samsung Electronics is optimistic about the future of folding screen smartphones.

Jacob Chen, vice president of Samsung China Taiwan, said that global shipments of folding screen models are expected to reach 20 million in 2022, according to DIGITIMES.

According to him, Samsung's new folding screen phones Galaxy Z Fold 4 and Galaxy Z Flip 4 have made a number of upgrades and improvements compared with their previous generations.

Jacob Chen said that supported by Qualcomm's latest Snapdragon 8 Plus first-generation processor, the new Galaxy folding screen phone can solve the overheating and performance limitations of the previous generation of products.

In addition, Samsung has stepped up its deployment and promotion of new folding screen products, which will boost sales in the second half of this year.

Jacob Chen pointed out that some market researchers estimate that global shipments of foldable smartphones will reach about 11 million this year, well below Samsung's forecast of 20 million.

In response, he explained that while global mobile phone shipments in the second half of the year may be affected by some adverse factors such as inflation and regional conflicts, Samsung expects demand for folding screen models to remain strong.

According to research firm Strategy Analytics, global shipments of folding screen phones will reach 75 million in 2025. But Jacob Chen stressed that Samsung believes that figure may be reached ahead of time.

"Samsung says nearly 10 million folding screen phones will be shipped worldwide in 2021, making it a modern lifestyle choice."
