Shulou(Shulou.com)11/24 Report--
Sina Technology News, Beijing time, August 16, 2013, Apple was sued by employees who believed that it took a long time for the company to undergo security checks after work and that the company should be paid. Apple later agreed to settle the lawsuit for $30.5 million (about 206 million yuan), which was recently approved by a federal judge in California.
U.S. District Judge William William Alsup of San Francisco approved the settlement on Sunday. In 2020, the California Supreme Court held that a fee should be paid to force employees to carry out security checks under state law.
Wal-Mart and Amazon face similar lawsuits. Amazon and a human resources agency agreed last year to pay $8.7 million (about 58.725 million yuan) to settle with 42000 warehouse employees.
The plaintiffs believed that employees at Apple stores often had to wait for a few minutes, sometimes longer, during inspections, and that Apple would check their bags when they left the store.
Alsup dropped the case in 2015, arguing that employees were not under the company's control during security checks and that the company did not allow employees to bring their personal belongings to the workplace. Apple inspected personal belongings.
The federal appeals court later asked the California Supreme Court to decide whether fees should be paid within the inspection period under state law.
The 2020 state court ruled against Apple, arguing that it was unrealistic to expect employees not to bring their personal belongings to the workplace. The federal court overturned the previous decision, and Asalp asked for a trial on the issue of compensation.
