Google announces that Android 13 is officially open source and can be used by mobile phone manufacturers
CTOnews.com8 reported on March 16 that today Google has pushed an official update of Android 13 to the Pixel model. The company also announced that Android 13 has been officially open source and the source code of the new Android 13 system has been uploaded to the Android open source project (AOSP).
The open source code means that all Android phone manufacturers can now use and adapt their own phones, and it is also necessary to develop custom ROM such as LineageOS.
Open source is also important for developers because they will also release compatible versions of their applications and use API to build more features.
It is worth mentioning that Google released the source code of Android 13 under the Apache license version 2.0, which means that developers are free to modify and distribute the code without having to open source their modifications, which allows smartphone manufacturers to develop their own closed-source operating systems.
The Android 13 update brings security improvements (privacy, notifications, etc.), UI / theme improvements, productivity gains (tablet interactions, etc.), OpenJDK 11 LTS updates, support for the new MIDI 2.0 standard, ART optimization (to improve application performance and efficiency), garbage collection improvements (to reduce memory pressure), and a variety of other evolution and changes.
