CTOnews.com, Nov. 25 (Xinhua)-- after Blizzard broke up with NetEase, the national service of games such as World of Warcraft will be temporarily closed in January next year, while World of Warcraft: the Legion of Dragons, which will be launched on November 28, may lose a large number of users soon after its launch.

In response, John Hight, director of Blizzard's World of Warcraft studio, told the Washington Post that the game development team did not know in advance that Blizzard and NetEase had broken up.

"what I know about this is basically the same as the information you have. We have to let players know the news. We can't operate in China without a partner, but that's what's happening now."

He said the relevant teams are studying from different angles how to get Chinese players to play the game again as soon as possible.

"We are trying from different angles how and how quickly we can serve Chinese players again. It's painful for us not to be able to do business there, and I hope to have the ability to bring them back to Azeroth."

CTOnews.com learned that according to a recent filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Blizzard's partnership with NetEase made Activision Blizzard a handsome profit of $264 million in 2021.

In fact, World of Warcraft encountered similar problems long before the launch of Wrath of the Lich King in 2009, when the new version was delayed in China for more than a year, and then Blizzard transferred the agency from Nine cities to NetEase. In other words, Blizzard has been working with NetEase for nearly 14 years.
