CTOnews.com reported earlier this month that Mercedes-Benz has launched a performance "unlock" service for North American users, paying an additional $1200 a year (including tax) to get the full performance potential of EQ series electric vehicles. However, this business cannot be launched in Europe for the time being because of some legal obstacles.

In the U.S. market, Mercedes-Benz officials said that after purchasing OTA power pay upgrade subscription service, the maximum power of the corresponding model will increase by 20%-24%, so that the acceleration time of the vehicle 0-60 mph will increase by 0.8-0.9 seconds, specific to the model:

EQE 350 4MATI motor power increased from 215kW to 260kW, 0-96 km/h acceleration increased from 6.0 seconds to 5.1 seconds;

EQE SUV 350 4MATIC motor power increased from 215kW to 260kW, 0-96 km/h increased from 6.2 seconds to 5.2 seconds;

EQS 450 4MATIC motor power increased from 265kW to 330kW, 0-96 km/h increased from 5.3 seconds to 4.5 seconds;

EQS SUV 450 4MATIC motor power increased from 265kW to 330kW, 0-96 km/h increased from 5.8 seconds to 4.9 seconds.

However, for the European market, according to Mercedes-Benz related sources disclosed to the outside world, may not be provided temporarily, because of some legal obstacles, although there is no detailed information disclosed, but speculation and "subscription mode" to provide services related.

CTOnews.com understands that paying to improve car performance is not Mercedes-Benz's first initiative. Polar Star 2 also upgraded the power and torque of the powertrain through OTA at the end of last year, but Polar Star directly opened permanent use rights for users. Tesla has also launched such OTA services before.
